Following a truly inspiring presentation of the darker sides of the contemporary film heroines at this years Birds Eye View Festival in April the BFI Filmstore is delighted to invite back Helen Jacey, author of The Woman in the Story: Writing Memorable Female Characters, to give a unique insight into the highs and lows and not necessarily happy endings of today's love stories.
The romance genre has gone through countless evolutions. From epics to bromances, westerns to sci-fi, having a love story at the heart of the narrative raises new challenges for filmmakers; whether writer, director, producer or actress. Helen Jacey will be showing how love stories, whatever period they are set in, reveal more about contemporary attitudes than meets the eye, Come along for some inspirational guidelines for all who love making films about making love!
Helen’s book The Woman in the Story: Writing Memorable Female Characters is published by Michael Wiese Productions and is the first and only screenwriting guide that aims to help writers consider gender issues when creating female characters.
